Onyx loves Altrusa

Here at Onyx we LOVE our regulars!

ALTRUSA is a local organistion that regularly uses our upstairs Function Room for their monthly meetings. We are so grateful they support us, so we wanted to share the love and support them too by showcasing and sharing a bit about their organisation ...

We asked these wonderful ladies to tell us a little about their organisation. "The Altrusa International Cambridge Club has been holding our monthly Dinner meeting at the Onyx for three years. We are a local Women’s Service Club with a membership of twenty two.

Our main focus is Literacy and each year we reward two children from local Primary Schools with book vouchers. These children have worked very hard to be able to achieve this recognition. We also reward two High School students, one from the Gateway programme, and the other a senior student who has always struggled to achieve what they have.

We also raise funds during the year to support local charities and our International programme “Threads across the Pacific” where we have provided sewing machines and sewing equipment for women in Vanuatu. One of our members has travelled to Vanuatu to help teach the women to sew.

We have a weekly roster providing transport for Residents of the Selwyn St Andrews Village to the supermarket, doctor and any other places in town they need to go to. We have a beautiful meal each month and the service has always been amazing. Onyx are always happy to work with us if we have any changes in our monthly programme."
